Wiesbaden
The Voicemap audio tour for Wiesbaden is available to download and along with this blog post you have the chance to fully immerse yourself and enjoy wonderful Wiesbaden.
During the tour I lead you through the heart of Wiesbaden old town walking past many places of interest, cafes and numerous hot springs, but there are other sights to visit too. Listed below are extra hints, including the location of the Jewish memorial, getting to the Neroberg, and finding the secret Chateau Nero wine bar….enjoy!
Psst…from August 8th - 17th 2025 Wiesbaden hosts the Rheingauer wine festival. It’s huge, has at least 50 wine stands and takes place centrally, around the town hall!
Cafes
Coffeehouse Tesla (Am Römertor 2, 65183 Wiesbaden) This cafe is along the tour route in a pedestrian area. The coffee is excellent as are the cakes. Its a popular spot for lunch with everything being home-made.
Mazzucco Gelateria (Christian-Zais-Str.3) At the beginning of the tour, in the colonnade is this excellent ice-cream parlour. Runs by an Italian family, the coffee is good here too!
Les Deux Messieurs (Marktstraße 2) Breakfast and lunch with french flair. Centrally located and open from 8am.
Wild &Wood Cafe (Ob. Webergasse 48) Serving home made cakes and snacks, this cafe is a short walk from the Kochbrunnen.
Maldaner (Marktstraße 34) Mentioned on the tour, stop in Maldaner for an oldy, worldy experience of a Viennese coffee house.
Eden Cafe Bistro (Nerotal 1) This cafe, serving homemade food, is at the beginning of the Nerotal Anlage and a worthy pit stop before heading up to the Neroberg.
Restaurants
Chez Mamie (Spiegelgasse 9) Along the tour route, close to the Kochbrunnen. Chez Mamie has good food and a lovely inner courtyard for the summer months.
Shops
Xocoatl (Grabenstraße 24) This shop is heaven and the proprietor is super friendly and knows her chocolate. Grab a truffle or two to eat along the tour and in particular try the birch (Zirben) truffle for a totally new flavour sensation.
Kunder Confiserie (Wilhelmstraße 12) Pick up your genuine Wiesbaden, chocolate souvenir here! It’s a small cafe too, so try one of the cakes with your coffee.
The Jewish Memorial
The Jewish memorial is not on the tour, but it is within the city center and easy to find. Go to the junction where Michelsberg meets Coulinstraße and use the pedestrian crossing which then leads to the large grey wall naming each Wiesbaden Jew transported and murdered during the holocaust. If you then continue along Coulinstraße, it leads towards the Roman gate and passes through what would have been the old synagogue. Unfortunately no traces remain of it today.
Getting to the Neroberg
The Neroberg hill has great views across Wiesbaden. If you are super fit you can walk up there, visiting the Russian Capella along the way, or drive up there with a car. The best way to visit though, is taking the old funicular railway which trundles up and down during the summer months.
The Nerobergbahn railway station (Wilhelminenstraße 51) is a 2 km walk from the city center. Along the way is the option to walk through the Nerotal Anlage, a park with pretty meandering footpaths. At the city end of the park, near Stiftstraße, is the Eden Cafe (Nerotal 1), listed above in the cafes section.
Alternatively if coming from Wiesbaden Hauptbahnhof take the number 1 bus which departs from bus stop B, outside the station. The bus drives through the city centre and ends at Nerotal, right outside the funicular station.
Travel cards are not valid on the funicular railway. Presently it costs 6€ for a return trip, or 4,50€ one way.
When travelling up the Nerobergbahn look to the right hand side to discover the hidden away Chateau Nero wine bar. It has great views across Wiesbaden. To find this hidden secret, alight from the train and head towards the large, pink sandstone, WW1 memorial stone. If you look to the to woods to the right of the memorial there is a narrow path. Follow the path that seems to lead to nowhere, but follows along stone wall and within 50 meters you will see the Chateau Nero sign. Serving good local wine and small snacks Chateau Nero offers a great end to a day of sight seeing!
